Cranberries

Cranberries (Vaccinium macrocarpon) are a group of evergreen dwarf shrubs with red berries as fruit. The plant originally comes from North America, where it was used by the natives as food, remedy and even for religious purposes. Because of its many qualities, it is no surprise that cranberry is considered to be one of the healthiest plants in the world.
Cranberries are rich in dietary fiber, anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, beta-carotene, Vitamin C, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium and many other micronutrients. It is interesting that 100g of fresh cranberries contain only 15 calories, whereas the energy value of 100g of dried cranberries is 60 calories.
Cranberry juice is commonly used for treating bladder infections caused by the bacteria Escherichia coli. Besides that, cranberries can be used to help with other bacterial or fungal infections, gastric ulcers, teeth or gum diseases, diabetes, eye disorders, they can help strengthen the immune system and are also used to help prevent cardiovascular disease.
