Peanuts grow in a dark brown shell which contains wrinkled pod with the color that resembles the color of human skin. The pod usually contains several seeds. Peanuts are also known as the groundnuts because the peanut plant, after blossoming, turns its pedicels downward to bury the fruit several inches in the ground, where they complete their development.
Peanuts are sold in their shell which has to be whole and the seeds in it are not supposed to be heard when shaken. They are also sold shelled, raw or roasted (salted or unsalted).
These nuts are rich in fat and proteins: 100g of peanuts contain 49.24g of fat, that is, 25.80g of proteins. They also contain 6.5g of water, 16.14g of carbohydrates and 8.5g of dietary fiber. Energetic value of 100g is 567 calories, or 2.372 kJ. Peanuts also provide minerals such as: Potassium (705mg),
Phosphorous (376mg), Magnesium (168mg), Calcium (92mg), Sodium (18mg), Iron (4.58mg), Zinc (3.27mg), Copper (1.14mg), Manganese (1.93mg) and Selenium (7.2mg). When it comes to vitamins, there is Vitamin B3 (Niacin, 12.06mg), and other B vitamins; Vitamin A is also present (9.13mg), then alpha-Tocopherol (8.33mg), Folate (240mg), as well as many Amino acids.
Due to the low level of carbohydrates, peanuts can be consumed even while being on a diet, because they don’t cause weight gaining. Consuming peanuts is also good for the brain because it activates it. Generally speaking, all nuts are very good for nervous system thanks to the microelements they contain.
Because of their qualities, peanuts and products made out of peanuts are often used by people who want to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and they are also very popular among vegetarians and others who want to reduce meat consumption.
